FYG History

FYG was originally an offshoot of LOTE (Life On The Edge), the official teen-forum of Focus on the Family. Due to differences with the editing policies on LOTE, a number of members decided to form their own site. All of the current mods and admins of FYG were LOTE members, as were many other long-time posters.

FYG went live on 14 Aug 2005 04:09 pm, and aside from some rough times with Forumsplace's server (and then theRazor/Daniel's), has been online and active ever since. In January ’06 we found that we’d grown into the largest and most active forum on Forumsplace. This led Ice Princess famously to cry out "First Forumsplace, then the world!" Her comment has left many people wondering what, if anything, the Admins talk about in a rumoured 'secret Admin forum'.

Annother notable event in FYG history was the infamous April Fools Day prank. This took place April 1, 2006, and its consequences were far-reaching. As it was chiefly Jessi's plan, most of the blame fell on her. She soon resigned her adminship (temporarily), and Johnnomac was chosen to replace her. In the long run, this incident led to changes in the way the board as a whole is run, and eventually contributed to the thinking of those who created the “Bill of Rights”.

Another formative event was the “the section massacre” which took place in early September 2006, when an inebriated (now former) administrator deleted large swaths of the forum by removing a number of sections. Early on it was hoped that the material from the deleted sections could be recoverd, but it was eventually given up for dead.

This led directly to the forum's relocation. Having become dissatisfied with forumsplace the membership had contemplated a move for some time, but was hesitant to leave behind so much content. It was decided that the large-scale loss of content left us as foot-loose as we were ever likely to be, and the move was made within a month--this time to a bit of server space owned and operated by theRazor (and hosted by Daniel). Concurrent with this move, theRazor was promoted to administrator.
